I am currently enrolled in a professional makeup course. Suggestions on how to start making a little money??

I love my class so much! But I am unsure on if I will be even ready to start a freelance thing. Do I have to take more classes (they are so expensive!!)? There is no certification in my state for this so, I need some advice!I am currently enrolled in a professional makeup course. Suggestions on how to start making a little money??
If you feel you are ready, start looking on craigslist or go to your local art schools and leave your information, there should be bullitin boards somewhere to work with photographers for free in exchange for photos of your work, this is also called TFP work or Time in exchange for Prints.This will help you get your portfolio together and a good portfolio will lead to paying work. In the meantime, get the word out to everyone you know that you are available to do makeup for weddings and special occasions like proms, etc. Make business cards and ask your instructor if you unsure about reasonable rates to charge for your services. Most artists, uncluding myself, start out working for free or assisting another makeup artist until they have built up enough experience for a resume and a strong book. I recently read in a magazine that make-up artists usually start out working for free. By word of mouth, people start to find out about your talent and you would start charging. Hope this helps a little.
take before and after pictures and go talk to a wedding planner or the planner for your local mall (public relations person). get flyers made (put some work into it or have it done professionally) to put up around town at the tanning salon and hair salons who don't do makeup or facials.


hand them out to teen aged girls who are getting ready to go to prom or homecoming or other dances.


talk , talk, talk, to everyone from the lady at the grocery store to the sales person at the department store to the lady walking around the neighborhood for exercise, everyone!


look in the local newspaper to find out where events will be held and who is in charge - call and talk yourself up.
