I need to know what steps I should take to pursue a career in professional makeup artistry.?

I aready do makeup for weddings and friends photo shoots. But I would like to makeup for fashion. Magazines, fashion shows etc.I need to know what steps I should take to pursue a career in professional makeup artistry.?
Make a business card. And yes get your name out. If any of your friends have any model friends or a friend of a friend I don't think your friends wouldn't mind supporting you and helping you out right? But make a business card I get mine done at http://www.vistaprint.com and I love them they have really really inexpensive business cards like $2.00 for a hundred cards. Isn't that awesome? Anyways do that and keep doing what you are doing. When you do photo shoots and weddings give your business cards give a few to them so they can give your card to their friends and also when you do photo shoots and weddings or which ever MAKE SURE TO GET THEIR NUMBERS AND ADDRESS AS WELL SO YOU CAN COLLECT CLIENTS AND THEN CHECK WITH THEM EVERY SO OFTEN AND ASK THEM HOW IT WENT OR WHAT NOT. GOOD LUCK TO YOU. =)I need to know what steps I should take to pursue a career in professional makeup artistry.?
Volunteer, volunteer, volunteer. Always have a portfolio and a business card at hand (with a website address on it), and network all you can. Go on things like craigslist.org to look for volunteer opportunities. Just a hand full of fashion shows and indie films can be better for networking than you'd ever imagine.
Just get your name out there. You should start a portfolio and widen your client base. Good luck!
If you don't have professional training, you will need to go to cosmetology school as your first step. Look up your local community colleges for leads to see which ones offer cosmetology, and you can specialize in makeup artistry. Second, you will need state licensing since makeup is a hygeine issue, and this usually involves a fee and exams and a certain number of training hours which you can do at a salon school like Gene Jaurez or Aveda. After that (or if you've already done all that), then you need to build a client base. You can either begin working at a salon, spa, or wedding company to start out until you have a following. You can also do podcasts or blogging like Tricia Sawyer does (this has boosted her to a BIG name now, even outside the industry). You can also rely on word of mouth or friends of friends, but this will take much longer. Once you have a portfolio of experience, you can apply to places like Nordstrom to do their catalogs, and move on from there. DON'T do things like Glamor Shots etc. as this will NOT enhance your career. This will take a lot of time and energy, but if you really want it it will be amazing :-)
