Is it possible to become a professional makeup artist in San Jose Ca?

I just moved her and I noticed there is not much to do in san jose, ca. I would like to get into the make up industry and possibly become a makeup artist but I am wondering if I can even make it big out here and what it might take for me to get there?Is it possible to become a professional makeup artist in San Jose Ca?
You have to go to school and get licensed and then get into the union. Then you may have to start out doing makeup for weddings; special occasions; etc. Try to get a job in a high end beauty salon where you can get alot of referrals for makeup jobs. You kind of need a little break as they say in the trade. It will be difficult, but if you don't give up you may get lucky and break into maybe TV soap operas. My neice started out in NY as an extra working on The Sopranos, then Hollywood on CSI and so many other shows, but she always worked as a makeup artist on the side. She was beautiful and really wanted to be an actress, but couldn't make it in that field, but she made alot of friends on the sets of these programs, and they knew she was a makeup artist. Whoopi Goldberg recommended her for a soap opera and now she is known in the field and works on many shows plus she is flown all over the world doing makeup for many famous stars. So it is possible, but you need a break. Try to get into being an extra in Hollywood, CA, make friends and you may be able to break into the business.Is it possible to become a professional makeup artist in San Jose Ca?
Depends on what type of makeup artist. If you mean to work for MAC or Clinique you need to go to Valley Fair or another mall and apply. If you want to work and teach people privately or for weddings get involved in the Wedding scene or social pages of news papers. Tons of people look for makeup artists at prom time or hoemcoming or Christmas for parties. Harmonie Day Spa, in Saratoga offers makeup consultations and such you might want to look at spas and salons who offer that type of business.





There isn't modeling or movies made here so that type of work isn't really done here. Our valley has money due to the dot com boom.
