What are professional makeup/cosmetic brushes made out of? and what is a good brand?

ok I'm talking about brushes from Mac, Bare Escentuals, Estee Lauder, Sephora, etc.

what kind of hair are they made out of?

I found some brushes on Ebay, they say they have like goat hair and other animal hair in them, but they dont look very full and look non comparable to top quality brushes.

I normally use Sephora brushes, I bought a ton of them, sets and individuals sometime last year. I spent $100s of dollars on them.

It's time to buy somemore, but I dont have money like that anymore. lol. So does anyone know of a good quality brand of brushes?

I'm not saying I won't ';spend'; money on them. I'm saying just not that I can't spend that much.

so hopefully some of you get what I mean.

thanks in advance

Hello there.. so like the other person wrote, some brushes are synthetic and some contain animal hair (goat hair, etc.) I suggest that you do not buy random brushes off ebay. There are so many that are fake and there are lots that are just plain bad. I've had some bad experiences when it comes to brushes. Anyways, like you, I was buying lots of MAC and Sephora brushes and spend way too much money on them. When I heard of Coastal Scents, I decided to try their brushes too. I bought some palettes and brushes. The palettes were OK but the brushes far exceeded my expectations. Some of them are my favorite to use and they only cost around $3-6 a piece! I have not had any problems of shedding or ';bad smells'; from their brushes. They are absolutely wonderful at such a great price. I rarely buy and expensive brushes anymore because I think these are such a steal as such great quality. Here are some of my favorites:

1. Wide Buffer Brush. This is by far my favorite brush of theirs. It's essential for putting on foundation and evening everything out.

2. Liner Brush

4. Shadow Brush

5. Crease Brush

6. Large Buffer

%26gt;%26gt; There are a few others that I've purchased but I think they've been discontinued because they're not on the site anymore.

I also think the brush guards are very important. They help a brush keep it's safe. Sometimes you wash your brushes and they dry in funky shapes. These keep the brushes looking new and make them look like you just bought them.

If you want to just go to the drugstore and pick of some basic brushes, EcoTools is nice. I'm sure you've heard of them. To me, they're not excellant and the Coastal Scents ones I have are better, but they get the job done. I like the eye brushes. I wish the face brushes were a tad bigger.

Hope this helps you and you get your hands on some great, low priced brushes.

P.S. If you still did want to spend lots of money on your brushes, I would say don't go for Bare Escentuals brushes. Of course, MAC and Sephora brushes are great. I really like the Urban Decay Karma Powder Brush.

Like I mentioned though, Coastal Scents will save you lots of money and give you quality brushes. Like all companies, not every single one of their brushes are good though. Do some research beforehand. People on the site also rate all fo the products so look into customer reviews. Also check makeupalley.com and read customer reviews on there too. The majority of their brushes are great and I've never had problems but that was because I researched which brushes were good and which were bad beforehand. Again, hope this helps! What are professional makeup/cosmetic brushes made out of? and what is a good brand?
